Objectum-Sexuality, or objectophilia, is commonly described as “a pronounced emotional and often romantic desire towards developing significant relationships with particular inanimate objects.”
For some who consider themselves as “OS”, thinking about having these relationships with another human being is completely incomprehensible. Instead, they form close emotional and even intimate relationships with certain objects.
One of the most famous cases of objectum-sexuality is that of Erika Eiffel (formerly Erika Labrie), who famously “married” the Eiffel Tower in 2007. Before “meeting” the Eiffel Tower, Eiffel was a world-class archer, which she attributed to her bow that she had named “Lance” and fallen deeply in love with. After that, she felt extremely attracted to an F-15 fighter jet.
She is a strong proponent of her OS lifestyle, saying, “I will tell you that I know love is being reciprocated,” Eiffel said. “I’m happy, I’m not hurting anyone, I’m not hurting myself, I’m not being held back. I love my life.” She’s even started an online community for her fellow OS peers, which has stories and information for the 40 or so people who openly identify as objectum-sexual.
